Demand for ThinGap’s Turbo Generator is expected to be driven by the original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM) need for marked improvements in engine efficiency to meet the new requirements for increased vehicle fuel economy (mpg).
The ThinGap Turbo Generator will recover a significant portion of that exhaust gas energy in the form of electric energy. That electric energy is available to directly increase vehicle fuel economy by a variety of methods:
- Supply electric power to the vehicle’s electric system, allowing the use of smaller or no alternators.
- Drive engine accessories electrically that are currently crankshaft driven (e.g. water pump, power steering pump, AC compressor), without increasing the alternator size.
- On semi-hybrid vehicles, the electric energy can be used directly for driving the flywheel motor.
- On full hybrid vehicles, the electric energy can supplement the energy supply to the vehicle battery system, thus reducing the required on-time for the internal combustion engine.
